October 2011

The crimes listed below are a small snapshot of what the officers of Northern Station are doing. For a more comprehensive list, visit the SFPD website (www.sf-police.org) – under “Compstat” there is a link to “CrimeMAPS.”

LET ME SPELL IT OUT FOR YOU
Officers responded to a San Francisco high school in response to a student caught vandalizing the bathroom. The young man had a marker and was going to town tagging his moniker. Officers took him into custody and documented the incident.

DRIVING WHILE LOADED
Officers Lopez and Hayes were on patrol when they observed a car commit a moving violation. They stopped the car and made contact with the occupants. The driver was on felony probation with a search condition as well as being in violation of a court-imposed curfew out of Alameda County. The passenger was a young female who had been arrested in the past for prostitution. The officers removed the occupants and searched the vehicle pursuant to the driver’s search clause. The officers located a loaded semi-automatic pistol in the trunk of the car. The driver-owner of the vehicle was a convicted felon, which prevents him by law from possessing a firearm. He was arrested for several firearm-related charges and booked.

(ALMOST) HIT AND HEROIN
Plainclothes officers were on patrol in the area when they witnessed a vehicle nearly hit pedestrians in a crosswalk. The officers were able to catch up to the fast moving car and stop it. They made contact with the driver and discovered she was on felony probation with an active felony warrant. The officers placed the driver under arrest. They searched the car and found some heroin in the center console. The passenger was released with permission to drive the car. The driver went to jail.

AN UNINVITED PASSENGER
Officers were dispatched to a report of an auto burglary. The owner of the vehicle was returning to his car when he noticed someone sitting inside. He did not give anyone permission to be inside the car. He and a passerby detained the suspect in the car and called the police. He noticed the car now had a broken window and fresh pry marks along the weather stripping and door. The police arrived and took the suspect into custody. The victim said that nothing was missing, but he found a screwdriver where the suspect was sitting inside his car. This did not belong to him. Officers booked the suspect who was on probation for auto burglary.

HOW TO WEAR OUT YOUR WELCOME
An officer responded to a call of a suspect who was trespassing at Safeway. The store had several run-ins with this suspect. From theft to aggressive panhandling, this suspect had worn out his welcome and was asked not to return. He did, and Safeway employees called the police. They requested that the suspect be cited for trespassing. The officer accepted the arrest, issued the suspect a citation for trespassing, and released him.

A LOCKER SO STINKY IT’S CRIMINAL
Northern Station’s school resource officers (they respond and patrol all the schools in the district) were called to Galileo High School regarding a student who brought marijuana to school. A teacher reported smelling the odor of marijuana coming from the student’s locker. Security located the marijuana and notified the principal. The officers met with the principal who showed them the two large baggies of marijuana. The officers seized the marijuana and transported the student to Northern Station. Due to the large quantity of marijuana, the officers believed that the student was in possession of the marijuana for sale. The student was later booked at the juvenile holding facility.

Incidents listed here are based on witness statements as recorded by the reporting officers and are compiled by Marina Times staff. Arrests for crimes against children, domestic violence and sexual assault are not included because of their personal nature.
