Dec. 20, 7:45 p.m.
Union Street at Buchanan
An officer was dispatched regarding an intoxicated person inside a bar who refused to leave. When the officer arrived, the manager of the bar stated that the subject had come into the bar intoxicated so had not been served any alcohol. In the officer’s presence, the manager again asked the subject to leave. The subject refused. The officer then asked the subject to leave and explained to him that he could be arrested for trespassing if he did not leave on his own. The subject again refused. When the officer attempted to escort the subject out by the arm, the subject purposely made his body limp and fell to the ground, refusing to get up. The officer called for additional units to assist and took the subject into custody. The manager signed a citizen’s arrest form and the subject was transported to Northern Station. Due to the subject’s level of intoxication, he was booked at County Jail.

Officers searched the area for the cab and within minutes located it with the suspect inside. It was later learned from the cab driver that the suspect took off his hat and slouched down in his seat as if he didn’t want anyone to see him. The victim positively identified the suspect. Lombard Street at Buchannan
Plainclothes officers were in the area (one on bicycle) when they noticed a suspicious person flagging people down, talking with them, and then riding off on his bike. The officer on bike followed as the suspect appeared to have no route and would speed up then ride slowly on the sidewalk. The officer finally decided to stop and identify the suspect. When the officer identified himself, the suspect took off at a high rate of speed. The officer gave chase and noticed the suspect throw something from his waistband. The officer finally caught up with the subject and was able to arrest him. The officer immediately went to the area where the guy tossed something and found a bag of methamphetamine. Inside the suspect’s backpack the officer found a scale, baggies, meth pipes, and cash. The suspect was charged with several felonies and his probation revoked.

DUI REDUX
Jan. 14, 2:40 a.m.
Chestnut Street at Steiner
Officers were on routine patrol when they spotted a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle went through a stop sign, almost hitting a pedestrian. The driver of the vehicle continued driving down the wrong side of a two-way street. The officers did a traffic stop on the vehicle, which finally stopped facing the wrong way. The officers approached the vehicle and immediately recognized the driver from a DUI arrest a few months prior. The officers could smell alcohol coming from the driver’s breath and interior of the vehicle. The driver showed obvious signs of intoxication and refused to do a field sobriety test. The officers took custody of the driver and the vehicle was towed. The driver eventually provided a breath test that was three times the legal limit. The officers also learned the driver was on probation from his last DUI arrest. The driver was booked at County Jail.
