Peak2Peak walk on Sept. 15: 10 peaks in 14 miles

On Walk San Francisco’s eighth annual Peak2Peak walk, participants will see the city in a whole new way, trekking 14 miles along the spine of San Francisco and enjoying views from 10 different peaks. This full-day urban exploration follows the city’s paths and hidden stairways while raising funds to make San Francisco a safer, better place to walk.

Organizers call this year’s route “North by Northwest”: walkers will be starting from Garfield Park in the heart of the Mission, climbing Bernal, trekking through Glen Park, lunching in a meadow, walking along Land’s End, and finishing at the Park Chalet across from Ocean Beach with a well-earned beer after summiting all 10 peaks!

The walk is guided, and all participants will get directions at the start of the event. Walkers should be ready for fog, sun, dirt trails, staircases, and, of course, city streets. Lunch is provided and, because this is an urban hike, coffee and snacks can be purchased along the route.

The event is a fundraiser for Walk San Francisco.

There are no same day registrations and last year’s event sold out, so be sure to register in advance online at www.peak2peak2012.eventbrite.com. Registration is $75 after Aug. 30 and includes a one-year membership to Walk S.F., lunch and a raffle entry.

Participants are invited to ask friends to sponsor their walk – everyone raising an extra $100 will get a prize, and top fundraisers will pick prizes first.

Walk San Francisco and its members are working to make San Francisco a more livable, walkable city by reclaiming city streets as shared public space to enjoy. Through education, activism, and policy advocacy, Walk S.F. attempts to make San Francisco’s streets safer and more pleasant for everyone.
