REPEAT OFFENDER
Oct. 4, 1:19 a.m.
Laguna Street at Union
Plainclothes officers ran a computer check on vehicle registration tags that looked abnormal; they came back expired over a year. The officers spoke with the driver, who they recognized from previous contacts, and observed a glass meth pipe on the floor of the vehicle. The officers remembered arresting the male in the past for methamphetamine possession. As they were arresting the driver, officers observed that he had a sunglasses case around his waist tied with a string. Inside the case were numerous baggies of suspected narcotics, crack cocaine, marijuana, and meth. The drugs tested positive in the field. The driver was arrested for the drug violations and a suspended driver’s license and booked at Northern Station.

A CURBSIDE DONATION
Oct. 4, 3:56 p.m.
Marina Boulevard at Fillmore
Officers on patrol noticed a car that had registration tags that were expired and pulled it over. There were four male subjects in the vehicle. Routinely, officers can ask anyone about their probation or parole status. They asked these subjects and received no response. Officers asked for identification. Based on their evasive behavior, the officers called for an additional unit. The officers found via computer check that two of the males were currently on probation with a search condition. A search of the vehicle revealed boxes of women’s clothing with the name and phone number of a woman that lived in the area. Officers called the woman and she told them that she had ordered some clothing online and had expected it to arrive that day, but it had not. The woman told the officers that the clothing was possibly stolen from her porch. The driver, as the person in control of the car, was arrested. It was determined that there was not enough evidence to arrest two of the passengers for possession of stolen property, so they were released from the scene. Officers Mirandized and spoke with the front-seat passenger who told them that they were walking around the neighborhood when he saw the package on the front stoop of a house. He said he believed that it was a donation and free. He said that he did notice that the box was still sealed with shipping tape. He and the driver then took the box and contents and put it into the car. The victim positively identified her property. The suspects were transported and booked at Northern Station.

WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE
Oct. 4, 4:05 p.m.
Buchanan Street at North Point
Officers were called to a battery in progress. While en route, officers were advised that the male had left the scene. Upon their arrival, officers met with a victim who said that the subject came into his store and was harassing people for money. If they didn’t give the subject anything, he would get agitated and aggressive with them. The victim approached the male and asked him politely to leave. The subject responded with curses and challenged the victim to a fight. As the victim got closer in an attempt to have the subject leave, the subject shoved the victim and then left the store. The victim told officers that he often has problems with the same subject – he said he knew where the subject generally hangs out, so requested to drive around with officers in search of the subject. They located the subject a few blocks away. The victim demanded to sign a citizen’s arrest for the battery, and officers took the subject into custody without incident. At Northern Station, officers found an active restraining order for the subject. At the time of booking, the subject had several choice words for the officers as well.

SHE WHO TAKETH SHALL PAYETH
Oct. 9, 1:45 p.m.
Union Street at Gough
Officers responded to multiple calls regarding thefts from merchants within a limited area, all with similar subject descriptions. Two female subjects were working together and stealing from multiple clothing stores. Most of the thefts had been caught on video. At the last store, the subjects took multiple clothing items, stuffed them into a large bag, and got onto a Muni bus. The store employee reporting this added good physical descriptions of the subjects and the bus number and direction. Officers found the bus and the subjects on board with the same bag described as being used in the theft. Officers photographed and documented the stolen items and returned them to their rightful owners. The total theft was several hundred dollars. Both subjects were transported to Northern Station where a computer check found the two had numerous warrants for theft-related offenses. They were booked at County Jail on the warrants and additional theft charges.

SLOSHED AT THE WHEEL
Oct. 16, 10:42 p.m.
Vallejo Street at Franklin
Officers responded to the report of a drunk driver. The caller described the vehicle and said that it was driving on the sidewalk at times and weaving through traffic. The first officer on scene found the vehicle with the driver passed out behind the wheel. Seeing that the car’s engine was still running and the vehicle was still in drive, the officer reached into the vehicle and placed the car in park, then turned the ignition off. A second officer arrived and removed the male from the vehicle. The subject had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and person, and spoke with slurred speech. As the subject attempted to stand, he stumbled on his feet and fell back into the driver’s seat. The investigating officer asked the male to perform a series of sobriety tests, which was refused. Based on the officer’s observations and the subject’s refusal, the officer placed the subject under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. The male was transported to Mission Station where he underwent a blood draw test. The subject was later booked at County Jail.
