June 5 – Low-Cost Rabies, License & Microchip Clinic: The S.F. Veterinary Medical Association hosts a low-cost rabies clinic from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Rabies vaccination charge is $6. Dog licenses can be purchased at ACC’s front counter with proof of dog’s rabies vaccination. Microchipping is free for S.F. residents with proof of dog’s licensing, $20 per chip for nonresidents.

June 26 – Toni’s Kitty Rescue: Volunteers must take an orientation class before they foster their first kitten. Learn how to handle and care for foster-kittens and enjoy a community of wonderful foster kitten parents. For more information, call 415-554-9414.

June 8 to July 13 – Introduction to K9 Nosework: Learn to work with the extraordinary power of the canine nose! This six-week evening class provides an opportunity and outlet for the natural hunting and scenting abilities of all dogs, whether puppies or adults. High food or toy motivation is beneficial. $180.

June 12 – 7th Annual Dog Day on the Bay: Treat your pooch to a one-of-a-kind nautical adventure specially designed by Hornblower Cruises. Enjoy spectacular views, gourmet cuisine, and impeccable service. Hornblower’s crew has thought of everything – from a bow-wow buffet to a “poop deck” and doggie entertainment. Proceeds benefit The San Francisco SPCA. $125, one dog per person.

Mobile Adoption Outreach: Can’t make it out to Maddie’s Adoption Center? Stop by one of the monthly outreach locations to visit adoptable cats and dogs and receive free animal care and behavior advice.

June 6 to Aug. 12 – Summer Zoo Camp Sessions: Children from Pre-K through 7th grade can spend a week (daytime only) at the zoo learning about the animals, their habitats, and their care. Craft projects and games reinforce the concepts that are taught. Keeper talks, observation walks, and lots of hands-on activities will keep kids enthralled. Preregistration required.

June 11 to Sept. 5 – TARANTULAS: Alive & Up Close: Discover these marvelous, eight legged beasts in a new light. Focusing on the diverse and natural beauty of these giants of the spider world, the exhibit provides a uniquely engaging and educational experience for children and adults of all ages.

17th Annual Butterfly Count

An intense, one-day inventory of all the butterfly species and individual butterflies in San Francisco county. Each group will have a copy of the Butterflies of San Francisco Field Guide to make it easier for novices. Bring your own lunch. $3.00 participation goes to butterfly conservation.
