Nonfiction: The High Tide Of American Conservatism by Garland S. Tucker III
Excellent coverage of the 1924 election between Coolidge (Republican) and Davis (Democrat), both conservative; both raised on a farm with attributes of honesty, frugality and straight talk. Not a book of political opinion, but one of America's thinking on the role of government. This leads, of course, to the role of our political parties and what they have become today. Thought provoking and an easy read.

Nonfiction: Just Kids by Patti Smith
From the "Godmother of Punk," one of the best memoirs I've ever read. Sad, but very inspiring. Nostalgic about New York's East Village, where most of the story takes place, and her relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. I could not put it down. Now in paperback.
                                                                                                                                   – Susan Sarmiento

For Kids – Best New Picture Book: Knuffle Bunny Free by Mo Willems
The perfect conclusion to the adorable Knuffle Bunny trilogy. Kids will like it because it's funny, adults will like it because it's full of heart. It made me cry at our information desk. My coworkers laughed at me, but it was worth it.

Nonfiction: The Tattoo Chronicles by Kat Von D
Life and love lessons learned by being one of the top tattoo artists (and celebrity daters) on the scene today. Read her rants and raves, see her best tattoo work, and get a peak into the intimate life and style of the maven of the tattoo world.

Graphic Novel Fiction: Uncle Sam by Steve Darnall and Alex Ross
Cynical and idealistic. I'm not patriotic, but this is an Uncle Sam I can support – one who holds fast to the ideals this nation was founded on. A mind-blowing section dedicated to a newly elected senator's speech … awesome!
