Bicycle rental concession change proposed at Fort Mason Center parking lot

The S.F. Recreation and Park Commission will hold a public meeting on Thursday, Dec. 16 to discuss awarding a lease to the Parkwide rental company to replace the existing bicycle rental operation located in the Fort Mason Center parking lot.

In September 2009, the department issued a request for qualifications for a citywide bicycle rental operation based out of City parks. Parkwide was unanimously selected by an independent selection panel to manage this opportunity. Parkwide is a company formed by three local bike
rental companies: Bay City Bike, Bike and Roll, and Blazing Saddles. All of these well-established companies have great reputations and over 30 years of combined experience in bicycle rental. Bike and Roll is the current concessionaire at this location.

The Recreation and Park Department sees this five-year lease opportunity as one that will continue to offer a great biking experience in San Francisco for tourists and locals. It will also bring the department much needed revenue to continue the recreational services offered to the public and maintaining gardeners and other park-employed staff.

The Recreation and Park Commission is scheduled to consider the lease between the City and County of San Francisco and Parkwide on Thursday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. in room 416 of City Hall.

If you have any questions prior to the meeting, please contact Cassandra Costello of the S.F. Recreation and Park Department at 415-831-2791 or by e-mail at [email protected].
