Presidio public walk on July 7: Mid-Crissy Area design plans open for comment

Mid-Crissy Area Boundary

The Presidio Trust is developing design guidelines for the Mid-Crissy Area of Crissy Field in the Presidio of San Francisco. Mid-Crissy is designated as the area east of Building 640 and west of Halleck, north of Doyle Drive and south of the Crissy Marsh.

Mid-Crissy design guidelines are being developed at this time to take into account the following:

• Changes to the landscape and/or land use brought about by the Doyle Drive project that could not have been anticipated during preparation of the Doyle Drive EIS/EIR/PA
• Ongoing interest in the reuse of Building 610 (commissary, constructed in 1989)
• Possible expansion of Building 603 (constructed in 1939) by its current tenants (Crissy Field Center) and/or possible expansion of its program and use of the surrounding landscape

The guidelines hew closely to the 2002 Presidio Trust Master Plan (PTMP) Planning and Design Guidelines for the Crissy District (pages 70–78). The Trust’s plans for the area remain as they were articulated in the PTMP: “Crissy Field will remain the ‘front yard’ of the Presidio, with uses and improvements that complement the spectacular bayfront park that the Crissy Field shoreline has become.” (Page 70, PTMP)

Future specific proposals for projects and improvements in the Mid-Crissy Area will be subject to additional review and multiple opportunities for public comment, including the development of appropriate environmental documents and consultation. The guidelines will ensure that projects in the Mid-Crissy Area are consistent with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, and that adverse effects are avoided to the maximum extent possible.
