July 30 – Toni’s Kitty Rescue: Volunteers must take an orientation class before they foster their first kitten. Learn how to handle and care for foster kittens and enjoy a community of wonderful foster kitten parents. For more information, call 415-554-9414.

Sept. 11 – Low-Cost Rabies, License & Microchip Clinic: The S.F. Veterinary Medical Association hosts a low-cost rabies clinic from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Rabies vaccination charge is $6. Dog licenses can be purchased at ACC’s front counter with proof of dog’s rabies vaccination. Microchipping is free for S.F. residents with proof of dog’s licensing, $20 per chip for nonresidents.

July 9 – Pet First Aid & CPR Training: Learn how recognize an emergency for your pet, what to do if an animal is hit by a car, and other ways you can help while avoiding getting hurt. $50 includes training book and SF/SPCA certificate. 9:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. in the Leanne B. Aug. 6 – 2nd Annual Harvest Howl: Treasure Island Winery & Tasting Room is emphatically dog friendly! Join them for a wine and food fest for those 21 and over to benefit the SF/SPCA, including canine obedience and demos, local food vendors, and doggy treats! Through Aug. 12 – Summer Zoo Camp Sessions: Children from pre-K through 7th grade can spend a week (daytime only) at the zoo learning about the animals, their habitats, and their care. Craft projects and games reinforce the concepts that are taught. Keeper talks, observation walks, and lots of hands-on activities will keep kids enthralled. Preregistration required.

Through Sept. 5 – Tarantulas, Alive & Up Close: Discover these marvelous, eight-legged beasts in a new light. Focusing on the diverse and natural beauty of these giants of the spider world, the exhibit provides a uniquely engaging and educational experience for children and adults of all ages.

Rescheduled due to June rains! An intense, one-day inventory of all the butterfly species and individual butterflies in our county. Each group will have a copy of the Butterflies of San Francisco Field Guide to make it easier for novices. Bring your own lunch. $3 participation goes to butterfly conservation. In 2010, a record 24 species and 775 individual butterflies were counted by 34 observers. For more information, e-mail [email protected].

SF Aid for Animals Fundraiser

SF Aid for Animals has set an ambitious goal of raising $60,000 by Jan. 2012, in order to start formally awarding grants to help pets. To qualify, pet owners must be regular clients at one of the participating SFVMA member hospitals, demonstrate financial need, and apply for assistance through their veterinarians. Chevy’s will donate 25 percent of your food purchase that night. To participate, look for a representative from SFAFA at the door, who will give you a flier to present to your waiter. www.sfaidforanimals.org

3rd Annual Moolah for Mutts

Join Muttville for their third annual fundraiser. The enchanted, fun-filled evening with wonderful dog-loving guests (like you!) will include food and drink, a D.J., live and silent auctions, raffle prizes, and goody bags.
