CRIME: CRIME ON THE BEAT
May 2010

NOT WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED
Van Ness Avenue, May 5, 8 p.m.
Officers were called to a pharmacy on Van Ness about a person who was attempting to fill a stolen prescription. Apparently it had been filled successfully earlier in the day at another pharmacy, so a photocopy of the prescription was faxed to all stores. Officers phoned the doctor listed on the prescription and were told that the pad had been stolen weeks prior. The doctor verified that she had not prescribed the identified person OxyContin, nor would she ever prescribe such a high number of pills. Officers arrested the person and found another full prescription bottle of OxyContin, in another name, on her. The suspect also had a large sum of cash. She was charged with possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance for sale, and forging a prescription.

NO LICENSE WAS JUST THE START
Lombard Street at Franklin, May 10
Officers were following up on an incident with a citizen when they observed a vehicle traveling way too fast in the area of Lombard and Franklin. The officers hopped back into their vehicle and caught up to the driver. They also noticed the windshield was cracked (a violation of the vehicle code). The officers stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, who was extremely nervous. A computer check confirmed the driver did not have a license, and the officers placed him under arrest. A search of the vehicle found narcotics, a prohibited weapon (wooden stick), walkie talkies, and five backpacks with various properties inside including laptops, rare coins and paper money. The officers believed the items in the backpack were possibly stolen. As the officers searched the suspect during booking, they located more narcotics on him. Great job by the officers on the arrest and the investigation.

LAPTOP TAKES A WALK
Franklin Street at Chestnut, May 11
Plainclothes officers responded to a report of an auto boost in progress. The caller was able to give dispatch a very detailed description of the suspect. The witness said the suspect had stolen a laptop out of the car. The officers saturated the area and located a subject matching the description. As they were handcuffing the subject, he asked the officers to be careful removing his backpack because his laptop was inside. The subject also spouted out some incriminating statements regarding the incident. The officers discovered the subject is on felony probation and has a search condition. During the search, the officers found a laptop with a power cord and a burglary tool. The witness identified the suspect, and he was placed under arrest. The officers also located the owner of the car, who identified the laptop. The victim was also able to get back her laptop. The suspect was booked at Northern Station.

STUMBLING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
Bay Street at Laguna, May 13, 1:14 a.m.
Officers were called to the area for a person ringing doorbells. Close by they found the described individual stumbling down the street. The officers stopped him and found the man to be very drunk, so they took him into custody. A computer check revealed that he had two warrants for his arrest from the East Bay, one for drunk driving. He was booked for the warrants and public drunkenness.

ARMED ROBBERY SPREE
Steiner Street at Washington, Bay Street at Scott, Webster Street at Broadway
May 15, 3:02–3:30 a.m.
Three African-American males in a silver Honda with a gun described as a black semi-automatic went on a robbery spree in the wee hours of Saturday morning. SFPD is treating this as a series because victim reports all appear similar. All victims were robbed of cash and valuables at each location. One victim is a Marina-Cow Hollow area bartender who was walking home after his shift and was told to “get on the ground” at Bay Street at Scott. He knew whoever was yelling at him was not a police officer and did as told. One of the three suspects had a nine-millimeter handgun, which the victim identified and makes police think that the three robberies are related. The bartender was relieved of $340 dollars cash and his Blackberry by the suspects. Officers arrived and the victim filed a police report.

The same robbers are also suspected in a similar type of robbery on May 19 at 1 a.m. at Chestnut and Laguna Streets.

Incidents reports listed here are based on witness statements as told to the reporting officers and are compiled by Cow Hollow Clyde.
