March was National Women’s History Month, and Mayor Gavin Newsom, members of the Board of Supervisors, and the Commission on the Status of Women honored 13 San Francisco women who have made a difference in their communities.

At the March 30 meeting of the Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Carmen Chu, on behalf of Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier, presented a certificate of honor to Marina resident Gail Goldyne for being instrumental in starting the first Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT) program after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Since its inception, NERT has trained over 17,000 San Francisco residents in disaster preparedness.

A reception sponsored by the Friends of the Commission on the Status of Women immediately followed the presentation ceremony in the North Light Court of City Hall.
