CRIME: CRIME ON THE BEAT
September 2010

THREE THIEVES OFF THE STREET
Beach Street at Buchanan
Sept. 12, 5 p.m.
Officers were working a plainclothes detail when they responded to a call of three juveniles casing vehicles. The officers were given a description of the three and they quickly set out to search for them. They searched for a bit but were unable to locate them. The officers stayed in the area and, lo and behold, they observed three subjects walking at a fast pace. One of the subjects was also holding a black laptop bag. The subjects must have figured they had been “made,” so the subject threw the laptop bag to the ground. The officers exited their vehicle and detained all three subjects. The officers located a witness to the car break-in where the laptop was stolen. The witness positively identified the detained subjects and they were all placed under arrest. All three of the subjects were under the age of 14. They were booked on a variety of felony charges at the Youth Guidance Center.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS UGLY

2300 block of Van Ness Avenue
Sept. 14, 3:45 a.m.
Officers responded to a call from the Fire Department wanting to meet with police. Officers arrived on the scene as a victim was being taken away by ambulance. An officer rode with the victim, who said he had been arguing with his dad when his mother started having chest pains. They called 911 and the medics arrived on scene. The two continued to argue. During the argument, the father picked up a glass and threw it at the victim, striking him in the face. The father was placed under arrest and the victim was transported to the hospital for medical attention.

AGGRESSIVE PANHANDLER BOOKED

Van Ness Avenue at Pine
Sept. 14, 10:30 p.m.
An officer stopped a reported habitual panhandler to admonish him regarding his actions. She obtained his identification, ran a records check, and found he had a felony burglary warrant for his arrest.

He was taken into custody and booked for the warrant.

HIT AND RUN ON PARKED CAR

Fillmore Street at Beach
Sept. 16, overnight
A Marina resident’s car was parked at 8:30 p.m. on Fillmore. As of 6 a.m. the next morning, the victim’s left bumper was smashed in, the frame of the car was bent, and the right back wheel was slammed into the curb, which bent the rim and broke the hubcap. It’s a one-way section of the divided street, so the hit-and-run driver either took a really fast right turn from Beach onto Fillmore or was coming up fast on Fillmore toward Chestnut. No note was left and this surely will not be buffed out by an auto body shop.

STREET ROBBERY ON LOMBARD

Lombard Street at Webster
Sept. 19, 2:25 a.m.
A 23-year-old woman was walking home alone, westbound on Lombard on the south side near Webster, when a white Honda approached and someone from the left rear passenger window yelled some obscenities at her. The car drove off, but it came back and this time a 20- to 25-year-old black male wearing a red shirt got out and asked her if she wanted to get in – of course, she declined. The suspect then grabbed her purse and the two fought over it, he won and jumped back in the car with the victim’s purse and sped off east on Lombard. The victim was not injured but she lost her purse and its contents.

Incident reports listed here are based on witness statements as told to the reporting officers and are compiled by Cow Hollow Clyde.
