Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor: First, let me congratulate the Marina Times for recognizing the good work of Hotel Del Sol in being the only green-certified hotel in the Marina. [It’s unfortunate that you failed to mention] the carbon-free transit that has been provided parking at the Hotel Del Sol.

Yes, there is carbon-free transit being provided in the Marina, Cow Hollow [and] along Crissy Field to the Golden Gate Bridge by a bicycle rickshaw imported from India. This is tech transfer from Asia to the U.S. to reduce carbon emissions. There is an interesting story to be told of the road blocks that a number of property owners – residential and commercial – have thrown up to try and prevent the rickshaw from being used here. Thankfully, the barriers have been overcome, and Hotel Del Sol is one of the green champions that support the bicycle rickshaw being here by providing parking. The story can be found by visiting www.rickshaw.moogo.com and clicking on the link Carbon-Free Press.

This type of transportation is available to Marina residents and their out-of-town guests. Proceeds from such rides support the work of the nonprofit Partnerships for Change (www.partnershipsforchange.org) that supports sustainable development globally and is based in the Presidio of San Francisco.
