Oct. 21 – Free Spay/Neuter Clinic: The Peninsula Humane Society teams up with ACC to offer free pet fixes for needy S.F. pet owners every third Thursday of the month. Pets will be accepted from 8–9 a.m. on a first-come first-served basis. For more information, call 650-340-7022 ext. 387.

Oct. 24 – Pet Pride Day: An afternoon of fun, education, information, and bonding with your pet in Sharon Meadow, Golden Gate Park, from noon to 3 p.m. There will be pet costume contests, working animal demonstrations, animal rescue groups, pet product vendors, and more. Oct. 20 – 9th Annual Hats Off Luncheon: Critter Lovers At Work (CLAW) host a luncheon and fashion show at the Sir Francis Drake hotel (450 Post Street)to benefit the SF/SPCA Cinderella Fund, which transforms the lives of the neediest animals that arrive at the shelter – those who are not only homeless, but are sick and injured as well.

Oct. 22 – Puppy Movie Night for Kids: What better way to end the school week than getting cozy with canines, enjoying great pet movies, making friends with other young animal lovers, and snacking on pizza and popcorn at the SF/SPCA? This is a special, fun-filled night for children and an opportunity for parents to enjoy an evening out by themselves. $25 per child, ages K–4th grade. Pajamas are welcome!

Oct. 30 – Treasure Island Wines Harvest Howl: Bring your dog to a different kind of wine and cheese tasting on Treasure Island! $15 admission includes small-batch artisan wines, tricks and obedience workshops, pet-friendly vendors, and more surprises. Oct. 30 – Spooktacular Twilight Tour: Snakes and owls and bats and bugs … boo! Bring the whole family for a Halloween-themed evening from 5–9 p.m. The fun-filled event includes a nocturnal safari, a close encounter with some “spooky” animals, and carving pumpkins for the animals.    Oct. 30 & 31 – Boo at the Zoo: Walk the Haunted Nature Trail, explore your way out of the Rainforest Maze Adventure, and trick-or-treat throughout the zoo. Check out Puppet Art Theater and Witch Hazelnut’s spooky stories, make some scary crafts, and even see some creepy critters. You won’t want to miss seeing the zoo’s animals enjoy some special treats of their own during the Pumpkin Stomp ’n Chomp. The zoo requests that trick-or-treaters not wear rubber masks as they may frighten the animals.

Blessing of the Animals

First Unitarian Universalist Society (1187 Franklin St. at Geary)
A celebration of all the creatures of the earth, the blessing takes place in the church, where Muttville’s Ali Goldstein will be the guest speaker. Muttville Senior Dog Rescue and Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue will be in the courtyard from 12–2 p.m. with some adorable, adoptable mutts. www.muttville.org
