Contemporary Jewish Museum

July 1st-31st, 2021

Thu.–Sun. 11 a.m.–5 p.m.

736 Mission St.

On exhibit through Aug. 8 is “Levi Strauss: A History of American Style” featuring garments, advertisements, photographs, and ephemera in celebration of the birth of the blue jean and its evolution from workwear into iconic fashion wear; through Dec. 5 is “Golem: A Call to Action,” a digital exhibition in three parts that draw on Jewish allegory, folklore, and spiritual practice to confront societal and ecological disasters. The legend of the golem originates as far back as the Middle Ages, when Jewish mystics imagined the creation of a clay humanoid as a meditative technique for becoming closer to God. By the 19th century, popular Yiddish folktales characterized the golem as a helper, companion, or rescuer of an imperiled Jewish community; and more. Timed ticketing. Free (first weekends of the month)–$16, 415-655-7800, thecjm.org
