Through July 18 is “Future Histories: Theaster Gates and Cauleen Smith,” where the central video projections offer new perspectives on the past by taking archival photography from lifestyle magazines as a point of departure with themes of women’s power; through Aug. 22 is “Off the Wall,” in which five contemporary artists expand upon earlier efforts to break free from the confines of the picture frame by transforming photographs into sculpture; through Oct. 3 is “Nam June Paik,” which brings together of 200 works by the visionary experimental artist who bridged art, music, performance, and technology in groundbreaking ways; through Sept. 5 is “Close to Home: Creativity in Crisis,” which brings together the deeply personal responses of seven Bay Area artists to the impacts of the pandemic and social upheaval of 2020, and more. $25, 415-357-4000, sfmoma.org
