Opening Sept. 4 is “Joan Mitchell,” a retrospective featuring over 80 distinguished works spanning over three decades by the abstract expressionist; through Oct. 3 is “Nam June Paik,” which brings together of 200 works by the visionary experimental artist who bridged art, music, performance, and technology in groundbreaking ways; through Dec. 5 is “Lineage: Paul Klee and Ruth Asawa,” which highlights the affinity between Klee’s compositional approach and Asawa’s explorations of line and shape; and more, including Diego Rivera’s mural, “Pan American Unity,” which celebrates the creative spirit through portraits of artists, artisans, architects, and inventors who use art and technology as tools to shape society. $25, 415-357-4000, sfmoma.org
