Tackling The Food Waste Problem

Food waste is a global issue that has become an increasing concern in the United States. According to the US Department of Agriculture, Americans waste nearly 40 percent of their food each year. This means that nearly 133 billion pounds of food are thrown away annually. Food waste not only affects individuals, but it also has a major impact on the environment. Each year, food waste contributes to the emission of greenhouse gases, wasted energy, water, and land resources. By reducing food waste, individuals, businesses, and organizations can help save the environment, reduce costs, and reduce hunger. A California teen launched a non-profit organization to tackle food waste and hunger in his town.
