Unique swim and run event: Golden Gate Bridge Splash ’n’ Dash

The South End Rowing Club will be hosting an official Golden Gate Bridge 75th anniversary tribute with a rare athletic event on Saturday, July 14, 2012. The Golden Gate Bridge Splash ‘n’ Dash will include a 1.6-mile swim underneath the bridge followed by a 6.1-mile run across the bridge and along Crissy Field. This special event is open to only 150 participants.

Swimmers will enjoy amazing views as the swim takes them beneath the bridge with city views on one side, the ocean and Marin Headlands on the other, and the grand view of the bridge seen from below if they take time to backstroke a bit. Transitioning to the run, participants’ toes will warm up as they run up the hill, over the bridge, and along Crissy Field.

It is strongly suggested that participants be able to swim an open-water mile in 40 minutes or less. The currents in the Bay can be strong, so only strong swimmers with open-water experience should attempt the course. This is a great event for triathletes as well as daring athletes up for a challenging and memorable event.
