Dynamo Donuts & Coffee

Dynamo Donuts’ not-to-miss bacon maple apple donut photo: Susan Dyer Reynolds

After Sara Spearin graduated from the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont, she honed her skills as a pastry chef at big name restaurants like Hawthorne Lane, Stars, Foreign Cinema, and Postrio. While on maternity leave, she realized there was a hole waiting to be filled in the City’s bustling food scene for artisan donuts. This little kiosk at the west end of the harbor is her second location (the first is in the Mission), and it’s the perfect spot for a cup of coffee and one of the 7 to 10 unique donut flavors that rotate daily. I stop after a playdate at Crissy Field with my puppy (she loves the doggie donuts — who wouldn’t? They’re made with bacon fat!).

Tip: There’s a gluten-free option each day.

Not to miss: I haven’t had a flavor yet I didn’t like, but number one is definitely the bacon maple apple donut with bacon and apples sautéed in bacon fat inside and maple glaze studded with crispy bacon bits outside.
