Nov. 21, 2 a.m.
Baker Street at Union
A husband requested officer help after tracking his wife’s phone to several bars in the area, but the signal kept changing locations. The husband located a subject in a vehicle that he believed had the phone and said the driver appeared to be intoxicated. The husband followed the driver until he parked his car, where his tracking app showed the phone in the same location. Officers found the driver passed out in the car. Officers woke the subject and assisted him out of the vehicle, determining that the driver was intoxicated at a level unsafe to operate a vehicle. The husband, who had observed the subject driving, signed a citizen’s arrest against the subject. Officers searched the subject and located the stolen cell phone, which was given back to the husband. The subject told the officers he found the phone. He was booked for driving under the influence and misappropriation of found property.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
Nov. 30, 9:24 p.m.
Chestnut Street at Buchanan
Officers responded to a robbery involving three suspects, one with a knife. The victim was able to give a vague description of the suspects. The victim stated that one of the suspects said that he had a gun, but it was never seen. After one suspect punched the victim in the mouth, the other two went through his pockets, stealing his cell phone and wallet. Assisting officers were able to detain two males nearby that matched the description. The victim was able to identify the two suspects. Additionally, the officers discovered other stolen items at the feet of the suspects being detained. The males were transported to Northern Station where they were booked along with all the items of property. Officers discovered these two had been responsible for numerous robberies in the area in recent days. They were charged for multiple robbery counts from the multiple incidents.
HIDE AND SEEK
Dec. 2, 10:45 p.m.
Broadway Street at Van Ness
Officers were called to an auto burglary in progress. While en route, the caller stated that he was chasing the suspect. The caller gave police a description and direction of travel of the subject. When police arrived at the area where the caller last saw the subject, they were directed to a driveway the subject ran down. Officers found a male that matched the description and confirmed with the caller that they had the correct person in custody. The caller stated that he had gone outside to his car and saw the rear window had been broken. As he got closer, he saw the subject sitting in the rear seat of the car. The caller began to yell at the male who quickly got out of the car and fled. Officers searched the suspect and found numerous items on his person that had been stolen from the car. The male was booked at Northern Station.
THWARTED GETAWAY
Dec. 6, 9:20 p.m.
Franklin Street at Lombard
Officers responded to a burglary subject being detained by a group of citizens. Upon their arrival, officers detained the male and spoke to the involved parties. The victim was called by his girlfriend and told someone had broken into their garage and stolen his moped. The victim was driving home and happened to see a male pushing his scooter on the street. The victim called police and detained the male until their arrival. The victim said that he did not give anyone permission to take his moped or unlawfully enter his garage. Officers arrested the subject and later returned the moped to its owner. The subject was transported to Northern Station where he was booked.
GLASSY ENDING
Dec. 9, 1:50 a.m.
Fillmore Street at Union
A male who lost his jacket during a night of heavy drinking returned to one of the closed bars that he had visited earlier in the evening. The bartenders were busy cleaning the bar and trying to go home. The subject banged continuously on the door in an attempt to gain entry to search for his jacket. The bartenders allowed him inside to search for the coat, but he couldn’t find it and went outside. While outside, the male, in his intoxicated state, believed the bartenders still had his jacket so again banged on the door.
This time the bartenders attempted to shoo him away. The subject got angry and grabbed a glass bottle, throwing it at the front window of the bar. One of the bartenders standing on the other side of the window was cut by the breaking glass. Two bartenders detained the male until police arrived and signed a citizen’s arrest form. The male was booked at Northern Station.
